General Richard Mathews is recorded in a tamil history of the period as praying to a Hindu deity at a temple in Takkkolam(Near Arakkonam) in order to be cured of some crippling stomach aches and he was cured and gave lot to the temple!James Grant gave a bell to the Durga temple in Benares after the priests,there had prayed for his safety when he and his wife and children were caught in a whirlpool in Ganges,immdly opp the temple.General Stuart was called Hindu Stuart,General Pundit,Pundit Stuart!
