அறிவெனச் சொல்வது யாதெனக் கேட்டேன்
அறிந்து பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
அன்பெனப் படுவது என்னெனக் கேட்டேன்
அளித்துப் பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
பாசம் என்பது யாதெனக் கேட்டேன்
பகிர்ந்து பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
மனையாள் சுகமெனில் யாதெனக் கேட்டேன்
மணந்து பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
பிள்ளை என்பது யாதெனக் கேட்டேன்
பெற்றுப் பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
முதுமை என்பது யாதெனக் கேட்டேன்
முதிர்ந்து பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
வறுமை என்பது என்னென கேட்டேன்
வாடிப் பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
இறப்பின் பின்னது ஏதெனக் கேட்டேன்
இறந்து பாரென இறைவன் பணித்தான்!
‘அனுபவித்தேதான் அறிவது வாழ்க்கையெனில்
ஆண்டவனே நீ ஏன்’ எனக் கேட்டேன்!
ஆண்டவன் சற்றே அருகு நெருங்கி
அனுபவம் என்பதே நான்தான்’ என்றான்!

I asked the Lord,What’s birth’s outcome?
He bade me:get born and find
How so called reading reckons,-I rubbed;
“Be a reader”, He brushed me aside.
By what is knowledge known, -I begged;
“Know on your own”, He dismissed me.
What then is LOVE,-I played an ace!
“Give and give in”, He served a hint.
What may (human) bondage be,-I showed a knot!
“Share and be bound”,He cut the knot!
Wife is Joy,-What could this mean?
“Wed, stay connected”,-He shot back
Why an offspring, pleaded I;
“Beget one and come by”, triggered He!
How crabbed is ageing,-ached I;
“Grow old to numbness,”-giggled He!
What in certain is want?, I pestered!
“Wilt you, pauper”, He damned me!
Any beyond Death?,–I sinned a question.
“Die to know”, He sounded brusque.
If all learning is life lived through,
Lord, What are you for?-my ego probed!
Close to me now somewhat, He disclosed:”
The Essence of Existence, verily AM I”
