பேரறிஞர் இராதாகிருஷ்ணன் ஆற்றிய அறிவு முதிர்ந்த சால்புரையை இதுவரை பார்த்தோம். உலகிலேயே இரட்டையர்களாக பிறந்து ஈடற்ற புகழ்த் திலகங்களாக வாழ்ந்து மருத்துவ உலகின் மகுடமாக அமைந்த சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழக துணைவேந்தர் டாக்டர் ஏ.இலட்சுமணசாமி முதலியாரின் உரையையும் தொடர்ந்து நினைவூட்ட விரும்புகிறேன்.

சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தின் நூற்றாண்டு விழாவில், 1957ல் நான் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவனாக அன்று நடந்த பட்டமளிப்பு விழாவில் நின்று பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். அன்று பதின்மருக்கு முதுமுனைவர் பட்டப் பேற்றினை பல்கலைக்கழகம் வழங்கியது.

அவை முழுதும் எழுந்து நின்று ஆரவாரம் செய்தது. டாக்டர் முதலியார் அவர்கள் அன்று அறிமுக உரையாற்றியபோது இங்கே முதுமுனைவர் பட்டம் பெறுபவரை நான் பிறந்த கணம் முதல் அறிந்தவர். அவர்தான் சர்.ஏ.இராமசாமி முதலியார் என்றார்.

பண்டித நேரு எழுந்து நின்று இது உலகம் கண்டிராத காட்சி என்று உருக்கத்தோடு சொன்னார். அத்தகைய ஈடில்லா இரட்டையர்களில் திரு.முதலியாருடைய நுண்மான் நுழைபுலப் பண்மான் பெருமை பொங்கும்
பட்டமளிப்பு உரையையும் சுட்டிக்காட்டுகிறேன்.

This day is your day, a day of rejoices, a day of recapitulation, and a day of thanks giving. I crave your indulgence for a few minutes during which period. I propose to dwell on some of the problems which the intelligent of youth will be confronted with and your willingness to subordinate your pleasure and your inclination to the noble cause of learning.

These are commendable qualities indeed, which augur well for your future. But remember that at present the hall mark of your degree represents the extent of your knowledge and nothing more.

Knowledge by itself will not lead you for and it is wisdom that is needed to make a success of life. It is said that knowledge is proud that it knows so much, while wisdom is humble that it knows no more. Learn to be wishes and remember that the greatest lesson which your Universities can teach you is to humble pursue truth for its own sake.
