அவ்வை துரைசாமிப் பிள்ளை அருந்தமிழின்
செவ்வை உரைசாமிப் பிள்ளையன்றோ – இவ்வையம்
எக்களிக்கத் தந்தான் இருந்தமிழ் நூலுரைகள்
சிக்கலின்றித் தந்தான் தெளிந்து.
புறத்தின் உரைகள் புலமைத் திறமை
வரலாறு பேசும் மகிழ – உறவாடும்
பாட்டின் குறிப்பெல்லாம் பண்பாட்டுச் சங்கத்தேன்
கூட்டில் விளையும் கொடை.
நூலுக்கு நூலருமை காட்டுவதில் நுண்ணறிஞன்
மேலுக்குச் சொல்லவில்லை வேர்ப்பலாத் – தோலுக்குள்
உள்ள சுளைகொடுக்கும் உண்மை உழைப்பாளன்
அள்ளக் குறையாத ஆறு.
இரவுபகல் தானறியான் இன்தமிழை வைத்து
வரவு செலவறியான் வாழ்வில் – உரமுடையான்
தன்கடன் தாய் நாட்டு மக்கட் குழைப்பதிலே
முன்கடன் என்றுரைக்கும் ஏறு
பள்ளிமுதல் பல்கலைச் சாலைவரை பாங்கெண்ணிக்
கொள்முதல் செய்யும் கொடைமழை – வெள்ளத்தேன்
பாயாத ஊருண்டா? உண்டா உரைவேந்தை
வாயார வாழ்த்தாத வாய்!”

Isn’t Avvai Duraisamy Pillai’s prose
The best of literary Tamil? He is the gift
The world has given us, as his command
On language makes us understand old text better
History will speak of his ability to explain
In way that poems that talk to us
And the notes to those poems are gifts
That taste sweeter than honey
A connoisseur who excels with each book
He is like a jackfruit, with the actual sweetness
Hidden inside the tough skin; he is also the river
That doesn’t stop giving even as you keep taking
Nights and days do not matter to him
Income and expenses do not matter; only his love
For Tamil does; he is like a strong bull with focus
And dedication towards Tamil and Tamil Nadu
His work is like monsoon rain, drenching the knowledge
From schools to universities; Is there any place
That hasn’t tasted the sweetness of his work?
And, is there anyone who can fully compliment his prose?
