TRANSLATION WING
1) INCEPTION AND DEVELOPMENT

In accordance with what Nannoolar had said in the above stanza,
The Translation Wing of the Secretariat is involved in translating various documents of all departments within the Secretariat as a legacy of the British regime.
It acts as a catalyst in the implementation of Tamil Official Language Act, 1956, as far as the departments of the Secretariat are concerned.
Translation, scrutiny, consolidation were all carried out in hand written style and the manuscripts had to be typed out by the respective departments.
These have been changed due to the changing times Modern Technology and the Translation Wing has initiated ‘paperless’ Office as a part of e-governance.
2. Subjects of Translation
The Translation Wing is carrying out the translation of various files of all the departments of Secretariat, like Government Orders, Notifications, Circulation Notes, Papers placed on Assembly, Reports of the Public Accounts Committee and Public Undertakings Committee, Election Manuals, Annual Reports of the State Human Rights Commission and State Information Commission and Reports of the Vigilance Commission both in Tamil and English.
Translation Wing also carries out the translation of various letters received from Hon’ble President’s Secretariat and Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Office and the Press Releases of Rajbhavan.
Translation Officers are deputed to Finance Department for translating Hon’ble Governor’s Address as well as Budget Speech, White Paper of Hon’ble Minister for Finance Department that are presented at Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in Tamil.
Moreover, translation works pertaining to Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu received from various departments of the Secretariat are also being carried out by this wing.
3) Additional Roles of the Director (Translation)
In addition to the routine and overall co-ordination of translation activities, the Director of Translation has been entrusted with the following responsibilities:
Coordinator for Central Institute of Classical Tamil to enable the Government to handle the subjects of the Institute.
Coordinator for the Tamil translation of the Government Orders in English received from all the departments of the Secretariat.
