The Sweetest Ecstasy: A Lifetime of Chocolate
On the eve of World Chocolate Day
(July 7, 2026), I find myself reminiscing.
I will never forget the simple joy of chewing Eclairs, orange flavour chocolates,coffee toffees, 5 Star, and KitKat and, of course, the ever-tasty Cadbury—a sweet ecstasy that melts upon the tongue.
Whenever my parents returned from abroad to Chennai, or when my brother’s Kannan and Bharathan came to visit, bags full of chocolates would be there, smiling at me.
My love affair with chocolate spans decades and continents.
I fondly recall visiting a Swiss chocolate factory alongwith a museum twenty-one years ago, where I was struck with awe and admiration, tasting various chocolates along the way.
More recently, during a trip to Ooty, I had the pleasure of meeting local chocolate makers, keeping that lifelong passion alive.
A song of praise, by millions sung,
A little taste of paradise,
A simple, decadent delight.
So pour the milk and break the bar,
The sweetest treat on Earth by far.
