Appointment to CICT Stayed

Chennai:The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted an interim stay on an order of the Human Resource Development Ministry,appointing P.Prakasam,a retired college professor,as Vice-Chairperson of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil(CICT),Chennai,even as Avvai Natarajan was holding the post.
Justice V.Ramasubramanian passed the order on a writ petition by Dr.Natarajan,who said that on February 25,the union government appointed him to the post for three years in compliance with the CICT rules.However,the government issued an order on November 21,appointing Dr.Prakasam to the post,even without informing him.And this amounted to lowering of his dignity.
Mr.Justice Ramasubramanian ordered notice of motion returnable by three weeks.
