On the hill high peaks of Silver Screen Range, Kapilan, the Poet of the People, jaunts in joy.
Writing lyrics in such strains to make the listeners’ hearts throb in passion, he as a King of Songs reigns over the range.
Ever with kindness he has been to praise my progress.
For every try and sally of mine with a drive to win, I would ask for his entry phrase of a note.
A single line he drew way back on 01-02-2003 and one phrase he served on 02-02-2019, I pair them both in proud gaiety and hold them in a niche of my Facebook!
மக்கள் கவிஞர் கபிலன் கேட்பவர் மனங்கள் எக்களிக்கும் விதத்தில்
எழுதித் திரைச் சிகரத்தில் பாட்டரசராக உலா வருகிறார்.
எப்போதும் என்னைப் பரிவு பொங்கப் பாராட்டும் பண்பு கொண்டவர்.
எந்த முயற்சியிலும் நான் வெற்றி பெற முயன்றால்
மக்கள் கவிஞரின் அறிமுகத் தொடர்களைத் தான் கேட்பேன்.
அன்று (01.02.2003) தந்த அறிமுக வரியும் இன்று (02.02.2019) எழுதிய அறிமுகத்தொடரையும் இணைத்து
முகநூலில் வரைவதில் பெருமிதமடைகிறேன்.

Shoot of Crescent is his handsome look,
Peacock’s fantails are his hairstyles,
Not got for Mal’s show room price
Summer Sun can’t blacken him,
Stars he scoops to make a Moon,
Sends Tamil to tongues abroad,
Seasoned in State’s Varsity,
Saiva Pillai, shunning meat and all,
Son of choice prose and poetry chaste,
Striped tiger, not crossed Zebra,
Adopted totes by muppaal,
Grandson to Grandsire Knowledge,
Tamil feed never stale, Kampan’s pic,
Cane Saccharum with no joints,
— Shall I, Kapilan, sing Arul thus!
குயில்ஊதும் குழல்போலச் சிரிப்பான்; வானின்
குருத்துநிலா ஒளிபோன்ற அழகன்; அந்த
மயில்தோகைக் கூந்தல்போல் அடர்ந்த கேசம்;
மாளிகையில் விலைபோகும் மனிதன் இல்லை;
வெயில்மீது நடந்தாலும் கறுக்க மாட்டான்;
விண்மீனைக் கூறுகட்டி நிலவு செய்வான்
அயல்மொழியில் தமிழ்ச்சொல்லை ஆய்ந்தான்;
எங்கள் அவ்வையத்தாய் பெற்றெடுத்த ஆத்தி சூடி;
மருக்கொழுந்து வாசம்தான் பேச்சு; சென்னை
மாநிலததுப் பல்கலையில் தமிழைக் கற்றான்;
கறிக்குழம்பு உண்ணாதத சைவப் பிள்ளை;
வரிப்புலிதான் வரிக்குதிரை அல்ல; முப்பால்
வளர்ப்புமகன்; முதறிஞர் பேரன்; உப்புக்
கரிக்காத தமிழ்உணவு; கம்பன் செய்யுள்;
கணுவில்லாக் கரும்பிற்குக் கபிலன் வாழ்த்து.

Even after break of day as Silver Moon you caught our eyes.

In two, KuRaL teaches
In tercets haikus do hang on.
In quartrains Venpaas well voice forth.
Likewise, line over line,
in lineage have you grown high
beyond all measures
and linger long as Aasiiriyappaa
in form and fame, fastened steadfast,
standing out in force of rectitude!

அலைபார்த்துத் தலை வாரமுடியாது
ஔவை அருள் பார்தது தமிழ்முகம் காணமுடியும்
ஒரே குடும்பத்தில் இரண்டு தமிழறிஞர்கள் இருக்க
மூன்றாம் அறிஞனாய் தன்னை முன்மொழிந்து கொண்டவன்
அருந்தமிழில் அயல் மொழியை ஆய்ந்தவன்
சேக்ஸ்பியர் முனைவரில் தோய்ந்தவன்
விடிந்த பிறகும் வெண்ணிலாவாய்க் காய்ந்தவன்
தாத்தா, தந்தையாய்த் தன்னை மொழிபெயர்த்ததால்
மொழிபெயர்ப்புத்துறையில் இயக்குநராக இருக்கிறான்
ஒரு வரி பழமொழி,
இரு வரி திருக்குறள்,
மூவரி ஐக்கூ,
நான்கு வரி வெண்பா என்று
வரிவரியாக வளர்ந்து தற்போது
அளவில் அகப்படாத ஆசிரியப்பாவாய்
அமைந்த புகழோடு நிமிர்ந்து நிற்கிறான்!
பாரதியின் வார்த்தையால் உன்னைப் பாராட்டுகிறேன்
வல்லமை வளர்ப்பவன், வணங்கி வாழ்பவன்
பாரதி பதில்கள் – பயனுள்ள பனுவல்
படைத்தவன் நீ வாழ்க !
