பெருமக்களே
நம் நெஞ்சங்களையெல்லாம் கொள்ளை கொள்ளும் அளவிற்கு மிக இன்பமாக நயமாக அருவி ஓட்டத்தின் வேகத்துடன் குயில் பாட்டினை மிக இனிமையாக பாடிக்கொண்டு வருகிறார் நம்முடைய அருமை இளவல் கலைமாமணி டாக்டர் சூரிய பிரகாஷ்.
சூரிய பிரகாஷ் அவர்களுடைய இன்னிசையினுடைய பெருக்கத்தினால் உலகெங்கும் உள்ள தமிழர்கள் மிக மகிழ்ச்சியாக பாரதியினுடைய குயில் பாட்டை நாங்கள் கேட்பதிலும் அதில் இழைக்கப்படுகின்ற இசை நுணுக்கங்களையெல்லாம் ஆய்ந்து கேட்கும் பொழுது இன்பக்கடலிலே மூழ்கி எழுகிறோம் என்று பாராட்டிக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறார்கள்.
ஏறக்குறைய ஓராண்டாக பல தடைகளுக்கும் தளர்வுகளுக்கும் ஏற்ப குயில் பாட்டினை மிக நுட்பமாக கலைமாமணி சூரிய பிரகாஷ் படைத்து வருகிறார்.
குயிலினுடைய சிருங்காரத்தையும் காதலிலே கவிஞர் கனிந்து கொள்கின்ற காட்சிகளையெல்லாம் நாம் கண்டும் கேட்டும் இன்பமாய் சிரித்தோம் மகிழ்ந்தோம்.
பல நேரங்களிலே காதல் போனால் சாதல் சாதல் என்று சொல்வது போல காதலில் படுகின்ற பல அல்லல்களை துன்பங்களை கவிஞர் மிக நயமாக சுட்டிக்காட்டி வருகின்றார்.
பதினேழு வாரங்கள் கழித்து அடுத்த படலமாக குயிலினுடைய கதை எங்கே செல்கிறது என்பதை நாம் இப்போது பார்த்து மகிழலாம்….
நம் கவிஞர், குயில் பாட்டினை தொடர்கிறார்.
நான்காம் நாள் நிகழ்ச்சி பற்றி கூறுவதற்கு முன்னால் கொஞ்சம் திரும்பிப் பார்த்துவிட்டு வரலாம்.
காதல் போயின் சாதல் என குயில் தன் குழலினிய குரலில் கவிஞரிடம் தன் காதலை கூறியது. சிந்தை பறிகொடுத்தார்.
காதலை வேண்டி கரைத்த குயிலோ மற்ற பறவைகள் வந்து இவர்கள் தனிமையை கெடுத்ததால் இவரை அடுத்த நான்காம் நாள் வந்தருளல் குயில் வேண்டி சென்றது.
சித்தம் மயங்கி திகைப்போடு நின்ற கவிஞர் நான்காம் நாளுக்காக காத்திருந்தார்.
அதற்குள் அடுத்தடுத்த நாட்களில் சோலையில் குயில் குரங்கிடம் குலவியதைக் கண்டு கலங்கி மயங்கினார்.
அதற்கடுத்து குயில் ஒரு மாட்டிடம் காதல் பேசுவதைக் கண்டு குழம்பினார்.
இருந்தாலும் வேட்கைத் தீராமல் நான்காம் நாளுக்காக சொன்ன நாள் வந்ததென எண்ணிப் பார்க்கிறார்.
நயவஞ்னை செய்து பசப்பு வார்த்தைப் பேசினாலும் குயிலை மறக்க முடியாமல் வீட்டின் மாடத்தில் நின்று குயில் இருந்த மாஞ்சோலை திசை பார்த்தார்.
மேற்கு திசை கடல் மேல் வானத்தில் கரும்பறவை வியந்து போல் வீதி வந்தார்.
வானிலிருந்து அவரைத் தொடர்ந்து சென்று மாஞ்சோலைக்குள் நுழைகிறது.
அவரும் உள்ளே சென்று அது வீற்றிருக்கும் மரக்கொம்பினை நோக்குகிறார்.
அது எப்பொருள் பாடும், பொய்க்ககாதல் பழம்பாட்டை பாடியதைக் கண்டு மனம் குமைந்தார்.
” ஏ குயிலே!
என்ன நாடகம் ஆடுகிறாய்? குரங்கையும், காளையையும் காதலித்து அவளை எண்ணிப்பாடும் பாட்டை நான் கேட்க வேண்டும் என என்னையும் அழைத்து வந்தாயோ?
சினம் பொங்க சீறுகிறார்.
இதை கேட்டவுடன் கண்ணீர் மழையென கொட்ட குயில் கூறியது, ”என் ஆசை நாயகனே!
இந்த ஏழையை ஏன் தவறாக கருதுகிறீர், தகாத வார்த்தைகளை கூறி என்னை சாகடிக்க வேண்டுமோ?
கொளுத்தும் வெயிலில் மெல்லிய மலர் வாடுமன்றோ?
தாயே குழந்தையை கொல்லலாமா? இறைவனை கோபித்தால் மண்ணுயிர்கள் வாழ முடியுமா? என்னை கொல்லத் துணிந்து விட்டீர்களா?
என் தலைவரை நீங்கள் சினம் கொண்டால் நான் செத்துவிடுவேன். நெருப்பில் வீழ்வேன்.
மற்ற விலங்குகளுக்கு இரையாகி விடுவேன்.
உங்கள் கோபம் புரிகிறது.
நான் குரங்கிடமும் மாட்டிடமும் முறையற்ற காதல் கொண்டதாக தாங்கள் சந்தேகிக்கிறீர், என்னவென்று சொல்வது?
நான் ஒரு பிழையும் செய்யவில்லை. விதியே!
யார் என்னை நம்புவார்?
நீ தான் உதவ வேண்டும் என வேந்தன் என்னை வெறுக்கிறார். என் வார்த்தையை அவர் நம்ப மறுக்கிறார்.
நான் தீயில் விழந்து மரிப்பது தவிர வேறு வழி தெரியவில்லை என புலம்பத் தொடங்கியது.
Fixed by the koel, that with her loving lay had made me languish still.
When lost in thought of humiliations by the koel wrought I sat upon the turret of my house and dreamily to the woodland turned my eyes-0 blissfulness!,
I faint espied afar A dusky bird on wing,and mouth ajar,with a tremulous heart I gazed O deep engrossed!
I thought it was my faithless koel lost!
since far off flew the bird I couldnt make out it was the bird it looked.But snatch my heart I could not from the object of my gaze;and down the stairs I hastened in a daze and rushed into the street and spied upon the western sky a sooty speck up borne on the glittering sea of light.
To be assured it were the selfsame shameless treacherous bird I knew,I hurried forth.
Straight on she flew stopping and moving,and I did,on blue,still keeping high avoiding closer sight.She led me by degrees to the woodland bright and vanished!into the mango grove I sped and saw the wee she koel sitting proud upon a bough where waves of glimmering light did play and singing in her voice as bright and beautiful as the sound of a golden flute fresh made.She sang her treacherous love.
Ah mute I heard awhile and sighed.
Approaching her I spake all wrath,Detested warbler,hear! Inconstant bird,O hear! Is it for this -to hear your song of treacherous love and bliss to your pair of lovers the monkey and the bull you led me here?
I flew to a rage to kill but cooling down,I kept me back sweet -while the koel in her melodious voice and guile of tears said loved of my soul pray tell me straight dost thou intend to save or kill outright?
the anril bird when parted from her mate will cease to live…if sun shines burning hot would timid blossoms smile?
If mother kills where could the child protection seek from ills?
what will poor creatures do if devas burn with ire?,
0 lord of my heart O noble born,if thou dost burn with anger I will die I will drop in fire or die of animals by.
I know the guilt you come to charge me with.
Ah,thou art not yo blame nor I in troth you told with the hateful monkey and bull of the meadows green I had indulged to the full in amours.
Ah,what shall I say O god how live what will I do O living lord refute thy charge I cannot but be assured I am not to blame.
Ah who will trust me now?
vile fate to blame whether thou dost yield to save me from disgrace and wed me to my love or the lover distrusting forsakes me quite as a thing all mean and I without respite happen to plunge in fire,whatever it be should I bear stern fate is there no remedy…..
