குயில் பாட்டு -21
பெருமக்களே!
குயில் பாட்டின் இறுதிப் பகுதிக்கு நெருங்கி வருகிறோம்….
கலைமாமணி சூர்ய பிரகாசு அற்புதமாக பாடி வருவதை உலகமே மகிழ்ந்து கேட்டு வருகிறது….
பொதிகை மலை பெரியவர் கதையை தொடர்கிறார்.
நீயும் தோழியும் பூவனத்தில் ஓடி விளையாடுகையில் மான் தேடி வந்த சேரமான் மகன் உன்னை கண்டு மையல் கொள்ள நீயும் மனம் மயங்கி அவனிடம் நெருங்கி வர இருவரும் ஆரத் தழுவிக்கொள்ள குறட்டை குரங்கன் அங்கு வந்து பார்த்து விடுகிறான்.
மனம் அதிர்ச்சியுற்றான்.
திகைத்து நின்றான்.
என்ன இது அநியாயம்!
எனக்கும் இவளுக்கும் நிச்சயம் நடந்துள்ளது.
இந்த பாதகி யாருடனோ சல்லாபம் செய்து கொண்டு இருக்கிறாரே என துடித்து போனான்.
மனதில் கோபத்தை பொங்கி எழுகிறது.
அதே சமயம் குயிலி உன் மாமன் மகன் மாமனிடம் யாரோ குரங்கு வந்து குயிலியை தேடி பூங்காவிற்கு சென்றதை சொல்லிவிட அவனும் அங்கு வந்து நின்றான்.
மாடன் ஐயோ! ஐயோ! சேரமான் மகனும் செயல்படும் காணவில்லை சேர்ந்து அனைத்து அனைத்தும் மறந்து நிற்கின்றனர்.
கண்டவுடன் காதல் கொண்ட இருவர் விழிகளும் கலந்து மயங்கி இருக்க நான்கு விழிகள் மூடி நிலையில் இருந்தன.
குரங்கன் மாடன் இவர்களின் நான்கு வழிகளும் கோபக் கனலில் கொதித்து விழித்திருக்கின்றன.
குரங்கனும் மாடனும் ஆளுக்கொரு வாள் எடுத்து வந்து சேர மன்னன் மகன் முதுகில் வெட்டி விடுகின்றனர்.
இளவரசன் சற்றே திரும்பி தன் வாளால் வந்த இருவரையும் வெட்டி சாய்க்கிறான்.
இருவரும் பிணமாக மண்ணில் சாய்ந்தனர்.
மன்னவன் மைந்தரும் சோர்ந்து கீழே விழுந்தான்.
குயிலியும் மனம் பதைத்து காதலன் மடியில் வாரி எடுத்துக் கூறினார் இறக்கும் தருவாயில் நான் உள்ளேன்.
இன்னும் சில மணித்துளிகளில் நான் மறைந்து விடுவேன்.
நீ கலங்காதே, எத்தனை பிறவி எடுத்தாலும் நீதான் என்னுடைய என்னுடன் இருப்பாய் மகிழ்ந்திருப்போம் எனக்கூறி மலர்ந்த புன்னகையுடன் மடிந்து விடுகிறான்.
மாடன் செய்த மாயம்தான் நீ அடுத்த பிறவியில் இந்தப் பெண் குயில் பிறப்பாய் பிறந்து விட்டாய்.
நீ உன் மன்னவன் தொண்டை நாட்டின் கடற்கரையில் உள்ள உள்ளங்களில் மனிதனாக வளர்ந்து உள்ளான்.
உன்னை தோப்பில் காண்பான்.
நீ பாடும் கனிவான பாட்டை கேட்பான்.
முற்பிறவிகள் தொடங்கிய காதல் மீண்டும் தொடரும் என அந்த முனிவர் உரைத்தார்.
குயிலோ பெரியவரே நான் உயிர் பறவை என்கோ மகனோ மனிதன் அன்றோ நாங்கள் மீண்டும் காதல் திருமணம் எப்படி செய்ய முடியும் என வினவினேன் பெரியார் கூறுகிறார்.
இப்பிறவியிலும் நீ விந்திய மலை அருகில் ஒரு வேடனின் மகளாகத் தான் பிறந்தார்.
ஆனால் மடைந்த மாடனும் குற்றுயிராய் விழுந்து இறந்தவனும் பேயாய் திரிகின்றனர்.
உன்னை கண்டு கொண்டனர் உன்னைக் உயிர் பறவையாய் சபித்து விட்டனர்.
நீ மன்னவனே நாம் மீண்டும் சேர்ந்து விடாமல் தடுப்பதற்கு என உரைத்தார்.
குயில் மீண்டும் தவயோகியிடம் கேட்டது இப்பிறவியிலும் என் மனமே அவர்கள் எங்காவது பார்த்து அவருக்கும் ஏதாவது தீங்கு செய்து விடுவார்களா என்செய்வது இதற்கு மாற்றுவழி இல்லையா எனக்கு ஆகிய நான் முனிவரை வினவினேன்.
அதற்கு அந்த பெரியவர் குயிலே என பதில் கூறத் தொடங்குகிறார்.
அவர் சொன்னதை மீண்டும் தொடர்ந்து காண்போம்.

She hath now dashed my dreams to dust and shamed me quite and her bethrotal hath defamed,O beggar wench!
so sighed thy kurangan tall and stood all wrath.
Now to thy maadans hall quick flashed the news the bridegroom had arrived,and hastened to the woods to see the bride revelling with her maids.
Now maadan sprang to his feet with bloodshot eyes and seating along he ran to the woods and saw thee with thy love in loves sweet paradise in a slumberous grove!
he rankling stood but saw not kurangan tall nor the latter him.
They saw nothing at all except thy slumbering beauty and thy lover.
They smarting stood while you two in the bower as if in the blissful bower of heaven slept soul with soul commingling,love enrapt!
two jealous pairs of eyes their dreamy vigil keep.At this two souls aflaming fill the floating eyes with sparks of fire.
Now rushed maadan and kurangan tall at the lovers hushed intent to kill the prince.
two cuts on back quick spilled the royal blood.
now sprang O quick the prince and cut the murderous two in twain .
they with a thump fell dead and in a swoon the prince fell on the ground.
And in thy lap thou tookest him,wailing at the dread mishap as from a dream in the prince now opened the eyes and said how long I will die.no good I’m cries…
No sorrowing in death.
Ah once again o maid we will be born on earth.
I will pine for love of thee and then enjoy thee too.
more births await us,pleasures too.
I will woo thee and enjoy in the birth to come.
Which said with a fading smile upon his lips,he died by maadans spell thou hast been changed a bird.thy former lover prince who fell by sword is born a man in the sea washed town set in the palmy Rhonda realm.
The poet does not call it ponde(French) realm.
thus shows the poets love of freedom and of the mother land.in ancient times thonda mandalam which included Pondicherry was ruled by thondaman ilanthirayan,a scion of the chozha line…
thou wilt be seen by him in a wood.
thy thrilling song he will hear and charmed,impelled by fate,become thy lover again…
so ended the sage of the southern hill.
my lover by birth a man and I a koel!
though love genuine be betwixt us twain how could we wed?
are words of my lover in vain words of a former birth at death bed said.the sage with a smile replied,o foolish bird,thou even in this birth wert born a maid a hunters child on the vindhya mountain side,maadan and kurangan tall by karma old by woods and hills as ghosts, aye wand ring wild came upon thee quick.lest thou shouldst once again rejoin thy former lover prince,they have transformed thee to a bird,o koel and follow thee,o doggedly over hill and dale.
Art thou not aware of this,o fate for the dead to vex the living is it meet o if the devils weaken my sense and make me quiet forget my birth would the lover take me as his bride..
.or if he hurts,Alack great sage,what shall I do ?couldst thou not find a way to save me..
.now the sage rejoined in grace ,o koel,o koel
