வானளந்த மாண்பு
டாக்டர் வானவன் ஏகாம்பரம் (4.12.1953 – 19.12.2022).
நிலவியல் முது அறிவியல் மாணவராக சென்னை மாநிலக் கல்லூரியில் மாநிலத்திலேயே முதலாவதாகத் தேர்ந்தவராவார்.
இவர் என் அம்மாவிற்குக் குதியுந்து (scooter) ஓட்டும் கலையைக் கற்றுத் தந்தவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
அம்மா வாயிலாக நாங்கள் மூவரும் குதியுந்து ஓட்ட ஊக்கம் பெற்றோம்.
இவர் அமெரிக்காவில் அணுசக்தி பற்றி ஆராய்ந்து முனைவர் பட்டமும் பெற்றுள்ளார்.
டென்வரிலுள்ள உட்வேர்டு கிளைடு நிறுவனத்திலும் மற்றும் பல நிறுவனங்களிலும் சுற்றுப்புறச்சூழல் விஞ்ஞானியாகப் பணியாற்றிய பெருமை வாய்ந்தவர்.
சென்னை திரு. கே. செல்வராசப் பிள்ளையின் புதல்வி ஆனந்தியை 3.9.1981 குசலாம்பிகை மண்டபத்தில் திருமணம் நடந்த பொழுது பள்ளி மாணவர்கள் நாங்கள் மணவிழாவில் கலந்து கொண்டது பசுமையாக உள்ளது.
இவர்களுக்கு இரு ஆண் மக்கள் மனோஜ் மற்றும் மகேஷ் ஆவர்.
செல்வன் மனோஜ் தற்போது ஜப்பானிய மருந்தியல் நிறுவனமான ‘NS Pharma’ நிறுவனத்தில் வழக்குரைஞராகப் பணியாற்றி வருகிறார்.
செல்வன் மகேஷ் மருத்துவப் படிப்பு நிறைவு செய்து கள மருத்துவராக ஃபுளோரிடாவில் பணியாற்றி வருகிறார்.
சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் முதுகலை தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் பட்டம் பெற்ற பிற முது நிலை ஆய்வாக 1990களில் அமெரிக்காவிற்கு சென்று பயிலவேண்டும் என்பது என் தணியாத ஆர்வமாகும். அதற்கு ஊன்றுகோலாகவும், தூண்டுகோலாகவும் வான் மாமா மிளிர்ந்தார்.
அங்குள்ள பல பல்கலைக்கழகங்களில் ஒப்பியல் இலக்கியப் பேராசிரியர்களுடன் அவரே பேசி விண்ணப்பங்களைப்பெற்று நிறைவு செய்து உதவியதை இன்றும் நினைந்து உருகுகிறேன்.
வான் எனும் சொல்லுக்கு ‘நேர்மை, ஒழுக்கம்’ என்றும் பொருளுண்டு என்று எந்தையார் என் அண்ணன் கண்ணனிடம் சொன்னதை நினைவு கூறுகிறேன்.
1999 ஆம் ஆண்டில் என் இனிய நண்பர் மலேசியா குமாருடன் திருச்சியில் மின் திட்ட கூட்டத்திலிருந்த பொழுது அமெரிக்காவிலிருந்து வருகை புரிந்த பொறிஞர் சேகர் நடராஜன் என்னிடம் திரு வானவனின் கீர்த்தியை பல நண்பர்கள் மத்தியில் சொன்ன பொழுது எல்லையில்லாத மகிழ்ச்சியில் திளைத்து என் பெற்றோர்களிடம் சொல்லி மகிழ்ந்த நினைவலைகள் இப்பொழுது வந்து செல்கின்றன.
நோய் பல தொடர்ந்து அவரை வாட்டினாலும் கலங்காமல் எதிர்த்து வென்று காட்டிய வான் மாமாவின் திறம் அளப்பரியதாகும்.
அண்மையில் 23.08.2022 அன்று தொலைபேசியில் என்னிடம் நீண்ட நேரம் பேசிய பொழுது தன் மாமியார் ஏழுதிய பக்திப்பனுவல்களை தொகுத்து நூலாக்கம் செய்து தர வேண்டும் என கேட்டுக்கொண்டார்.
எந்தையாரை குறித்து எப்பொழுதும் பெருமிதமாக போற்றிப் பேசுவார்.
அப்பா மறைவதற்கு முன்பே வான் மாமா மருத்துவ மனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டு இருந்தார்.
இன்முகத்திலகம் ஏகாம்பரம் மாமாவின் நூற்றாண்டு நிறைவின் பொழுது வான் மாமா வானில் கலப்பது துயரம் மிகுந்தாகும்.

Dr. Vanavan Ekambaram
(04.12.1953 – 19.12.2022)
He is a gold medalist in his Master’s degree in geology from the Presidency College, Chennai.
He helped my mother learn how to drive a scooter.
All three of we brothers were exhilirated seeing our mother sleeking on a scooter.
He got his doctorate from an American university for his experiments in Nuclear energy.
He worked in Woodward Clyde consultants Denver and various other institutions as an Environmental Scientist and proved his mettle match his name.
The memory of we, as school students witnessing his marriage with Anandhi, the daughter of K. Selvaraj Pillai at Kusalambal Mandapam,chetpet remains green.
They are blessed with two sons, Manoj and Mahesh.
Master Manoj now works with NS Pharma, a Japanese Pharmaceutical company as a Lawyer.
Master Mahesh, has completed his studies in Medicine and is now working as an internal doctor in Florida….
After securing my Master’s degree in Tamil Literature from the Madras University, I was keen to pursue my Doctorate program in America during 1990s.
Van Mama gave me his constant support and encouragement.
I still remember how he helped me by enquiring with the professors of comparative literature in many universities there and helping me complete filling applications and was not successful to get an admission.
I recall fondly my father telling my brother Kannan that, the word Van also means honesty and morality.
In 1999, when I was in a power project meeting at Trichy with my dear friend kvsn Kumar engineer Shekhar Natarajan, who was visiting from America, told me about Mr. Vanavan’s fame amidst many of my friends,
I was immersed in boundless joy and told my parents about it.
Van Mama’s ability to fight undaunted even though he was constantly plagued by many diseases is commendable.
Recently, on 23.08.2022, when he spoke to me for a long time over the phone, he asked me to compile and publish the devotional hymns penned by his mother-in-law.
He always speaks proud of my father.
Van Mama was hospitalized before my Dad passed away.
On the occasion of the centenary of his Ever smiling father Ekambara Mama, it is very sad that his son Van Mama has passed away.
